It was a year of extreme ups and downs. Discovering new things. Making mistakes. Being very dependent, and abruptly independent. Falling in and out of love. Starting a project I really, genuinely care about. Moving some place new. Living by myself. Discovering new things. It was a year of growth, and I’m so thankful for all that I’ve learned.

This is a very personal look into my 2011. It’s not news-oriented photographs. It’s the photographs that mean something to me, for some reason or another. It’s a reminder for myself to take pictures of everything, because these are the pictures that will really matter to me in 50 years.

This is a link to my final video project on The Castos. Lee and Lorrie Casto are saints. They are raising their three very young and active grandchildren and sacrificing their life savings and golden years to support these children. Their mother was never a very good mom and had a series of boyfriends who would abuse the children. They have honestly become my second family in Athens and I truly treasure my relationship with them. This was my first real stab at video, so comments and suggestions would be appreciated. It’s always a great time to see them and I love the city since most of my family is from Pittsburgh. My friend Andy Spear drove down on Friday and we went to see Ross Mantle‘s gallery opening downtown. The next day we explored Pittsburgh and got to hang out with my cousin.

I have 6 weeks off of school, and I’m going to force myself to blog and take photos for myself more. Here is the start of that.
