2011 was a year of change for me. It was a year of extreme ups and downs. Discovering new things. Making mistakes. Being very dependent, and abruptly independent. Falling in and out of love. Starting a project I really, genuinely care about. Moving some place new. Living by myself. Discovering new things. It was a year of growth, and I’m so thankful for all that I’ve learned.
This is a very personal look into my 2011. It’s not news-oriented photographs. It’s the photographs that mean something to me, for some reason or another. It’s a reminder for myself to take pictures of everything, because these are the pictures that will really matter to me in 50 years.

January 26th, 2012 at 4:34 amI’ve been really pondering this issue lately. I think many times I become so tired with “Did you get the moment.” Being in newspapers does that. I love personal images most because they transcend an expectation. I love images that are the expectation of no one. They are organic. They are the heart and feeling of the picture finder.

February 2nd, 2012 at 10:01 pmGreat work Maddie. I think I was feeling very similar to this in the photo from the slideshow. A lot happens in a short amount of time, especially senior year of college. But we always make it through somehow, don’t we? Thank you for sharing your beautiful photos.
